Ms. Leavens First Grade

imageWelcome Hampton families and friends! We have a small, but mighty group of students who are anxious to learn. We will be spending time getting to know each other during these first few weeks of school. I hope to learn more about families, friends, pets, and interests. We are reviewing and demonstrating our core values as they relate to our classroom and school.  (Respect, Responsible, Safe, Honest and especially…Kind!)

We are all very excited to begin learning about the life cycle of Butterflies, and currently have several in various stages of development in our classroom. We will continue this theme as it pertains to other insects and animals.

A weekly Homework Packet will be sent home next  Monday. Nightly reading is the main component of the homework, so please keep the folder the entire week and record book titles that you and your child have read, along with any observations or comments. You can help by setting aside the time each night to read with your child. My goal is to work with you to help support a lifelong love of reading. We have many wonderful books available for your child to take home; both Chapter Books for you to read aloud, as well as leveled readers. We are beginning the year with the introduction of the Reader’s Workshop model, which guides children through selecting “just right” stories and helps promote sustained reading for all students.  Sight word lists and suggested guidelines for helping with Reading will be available for you. Thank you in advance for your support at home.

Our Specials Schedule is as follows:
